Tonight in Seattle:

Photo essay: we came, we saw, we Danced On The Valentine!

It was another amazing year for Dancing On The Valentine, Jenny George's annual leukemia and lymphoma Duran Duran cover night benefit concert. Friends and fans packed the Crocodile while we heard most excellent renditions of DD hits and B-sides from the likes of Lesli Wood, Daniel G. Harmann, Noddy, John Roderick, and Fly Moon Royalty. Show-stealers NighTraiN took the stage with Hotels for a mindblowing cover of "Come Undone," Princess brought metal sensibility to Duran Duran's music like we've never quite heard it before, and Exohxo and Katie Kate rounded out an incredibly successful night. The tally is still in the works, but rumor has it that a very impressive amount of money was raised for a donation. Nice work, Seattle!

In case you were up in the photo booth (thanks Ben "The Chauffeur" Haley and assistant) and missed one of the songs, here's a recap of who oh-so-amazingly did what! We got our photo booth on too, so if you see any errors here, please let us know and we'll update:

What an amazing Friday! The Croc was packed with amazing people, great bands and so much love.

My favorite parts:

Lesli Wood and Jupe Jupe kicked off the night and set the bar soooo high for everyone else who took the stage. Please tell me someone taped their set!

John Roderick, acoustic new wave.  Need I say more?

Exohxo, sing along Rio-style. Is there anything they touch that doesn't explode in jubilant radness?

I found it surprising to find out that Legion Within was not on the bill. Also is Still Falling still under the radar? They are amazing and would have been a great addition. One more comment Jupe Jupe is amazing on their own so why can't they get a chance to shine own their. I hope next year I won't see bands who could care less covering the Cure considering I consider them one of the most influential bands in my life ever. I know most every word so I expect to see better covers by bands who love the Cure. A poppy version of the figurehead and I might lose my lunch! All in all it was still a good time. It was only one band one performer who truly made me wonder if they ever really listened to Duran Duran.
daniel g harmann and the trouble starts stole the show, hands down. mindblowing singalong for the win. goddamn.
What I find "mind-blowing" was that all, or at least most, of the performers in the show were on stage singing, cheering, and dancing to Rio while Exohxo played. Of all the moments in the show that I truly appreciated that one moved me, and the rest of the audience, too, judging from the howling approval and applause that followed the song. I can only assume that since there are no photos of, or write up about, this awesome sense of community (I mean, isn't this kind of what the benefit is about? Coming together as a community with a single purpose to help?) that maybe TIG left the show early and missed it. Which is a damn pity.

It's good to see that DOTV inspires such passion!

In related news, today is lovely Jenny George's birthday, so lets remember that the show is really about giving and love, and not about slamming bands you didn't like or complaining. ♥

We in Exohxo were so honored to be a part of this. The Rio singalong with every one on stage was one of the most magical moments I've had on stage, which is funny, because if someone had told me that I would have a moment like that playing a Duran Duran song, I would have told them they were living in Crazytown! It's all thanks to Jenny George and all of the people who made DotV possible! Thanks for the great write up, TIG!
What an amazing night! It really was great for the cause. Rumor is, a lot of money was raised and I literally bruised my hand while clapping on stage during Rio. Great night!
